About Me

Sonu is an award-winning contemporary artist with almost 10 years of experience and is driven by her passion and emotions. Born and raised in Kolkata, India and trained in Company law, it wasn’t until moving to Dubai in 2013 that Sonu decided to nurture her interests in visual art and photography and never looked back. 

Sonu likes experimenting with several techniques and mediums, but Alcohol Ink is her favourite and she specializes in contemporary & semi abstract paintings. The process behind her colorful ink paintings is very therapeutic which blends meditation with her artistic ideas and helps to focus on her perceptions, imagination, and feelings to create something that explores & and expresses her inner world and surroundings. 

Sonu is a visual storyteller and in her paintings, visual storytelling is often associated with abstract landscapes which unfold naturally in different shapes and forms to convey her thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Having lived in several countries, Sonu uses travelling as a great opportunity to explore and delve into the cultural influences and origins of the art produced in those various communities, cities, and countries. Sonu also gets her inspiration from her travel photography which focuses on nature, love, people, community development and personal development through self-discipline and responsibility. 

Sonu has participated in several art exhibitions across UAE including Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival, Tashkeel, Gallery Arabesque, Atlantis Hotel, DUCTAC, Abu Dhabi Art Hub, Art-Plus, Mercato, Mall of Emirates, Dubai Mall, DIFC, DIAC and many other Hotels and Galleries in the UAE. Sonu has been participating in Fabriano Italy’s International Watercolor Exhibition for the last three years and in World Art Dubai for the last five years. 

Sonu has recently been represented by FN Designs gallery in Alserkal Avenue for her Solo exhibition titled “ Inhale Exhale in June-September,2023. She has also explored new digital media and has exhibited her NFT in ART Dubai, 2022 with Morrow Collective. 

Sonu was awarded the prestigious Noon Artist Award 2019 for her work, “Spring in Her Steps” under the theme “After The Rain” from Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohommad Al Qasimi, Queen of Sharjah. She also won second prize in Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival, in 2022 and two competitions in 2018; ‘Dubai Through My Eyes’ conducted by World Art Dubai and ‘Cultural Diversity’ held at Antique Museum. Her work has also been featured widely in Elevision Media of the "Emerging Artist Award" across 1100 screens all over UAE in 2019. She has also been selected as “Top 10 Emerging Artists” during World Art Dubai 2020. She has also been honoured to receive a UAE Cultural visa from Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and Govt. the of Dubai for her contribution to Art & Photography. 

Sonu feels blessed to have had the opportunity to mentor children with special needs from Rashid Centre, Dubai Autism Center and Senses, Dubai. Among her private projects, she has been commissioned custom artworks for many high-profile private clients in UAE and abroad and she also conducts collaborative and private Alcohol Ink workshops from time to time. The artist’s work has also been appreciated and featured in leading Print Media and TV Channels in the UAE.
